Roots and Resilience exhibition reception set Jan. 25
CAMP Rehoboth announced Roots and Resilience: Stories of Strength and Spirit, a dynamic juried exhibition celebrating the history, heritage and creativity of communities of color, will open with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, at 37 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach.
The event is free, and the public is invited to attend.
Coinciding with Black History Month and extending into Women’s History Month, Roots and Resilience weaves together powerful narratives of culture and identity through the work of 15 artists. Offering a rich tapestry of artistic expression, the exhibition features a variety of mediums including oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings; photography; poetry; pyrography (woodburning); and ceramics.
Exhibiting artists are Bryant T. Bell, Nicole Brooks, Valerie Boorks, S. Exum, Kiara Florez, Candy Fordjour Frimpong, Taylor Gordon, Guadjosa, Sakreea Monay Jackson, Ann Martin, Carolina Mayorga, Amuri Morris, Chet'la Sebree, Coca Silveira, Crystal Stokowski, Winifred Way and Shannon Woodloe.
The exhibition’s juror is the renowned Nataki Oliver, owner of The Sold Firm Art Gallery in Wilmington. Since founding the gallery in 2017, Oliver has been a driving force in promoting emerging and established artists across the region. Her curatorial work includes exhibitions at Bank of America, Delaware State University and Historically Black College and University Week, showcasing a diverse range of artists and mediums.
Oliver’s commitment to creating spaces where artists can thrive, and collectors can discover new and exciting works has made a significant impact on the Delaware art scene. Known for her keen eye and ability to spot emerging talent, she has helped launch many artists’ careers. Oliver’s dedication to amplifying underrepresented voices aligns with CAMP Rehoboth’s mission to foster a vibrant and inclusive art community. CAMP Rehoboth organizers are honored to have Oliver serve as the juror for Roots and Resilience. At the reception, she will share comments on the selection process and discuss the works on display.
