Rosie Lee Coleman, devout Christian

April 22, 2020

Rosie Lee Coleman, 72, of Millsboro passed away in the care of Seasons Hospice in Newark Sunday, April 19, 2020.  Rosie was born June 2, 1947, in Pungoteague, Va., to the late Bernard Collins and Rosie Thomas.

Rosie was a devout Christian woman, whom her sons say “was church 24/7.”  She retired from Stockley Center and the Indian River School District.  She was devoted to her family, and her interests included doing word puzzles.  Rosie was outgoing, spoke her mind, didn’t sugarcoat anything and was pure “old school.”  She lived by right is right, and wrong is wrong. She was a member of Trinity Holiness Church in Frankford.

She is survived by her husband, James Coleman; and four sons, Raymond Snead of Millsboro, Jimmy Snead (Sherri) also of Millsboro, Jeff Snead (Shell) of Laurel and Greg Snead of Salisbury, Md. Also surviving her are her five sisters: Dora Belle-Isler (Larry) of Frankford, Loraine Burton (Brian) of Millsboro, Beth Morris (Larry) of Dagsboro, Sandra Hazzard of Georgetown and Amanda Purnell (Timothy) of Millsboro.  Her seven brothers are: Clifton Bell (Ilene) of Bridgton, Mo.; Lawyer Hicks (Sally) of Frankford, Barry Thomas (Towanda) of Ellendale, Ronnie Thomas of Smyrna, Rufus Thomas (Paula) of Seaford, Ulysses Thomas (Kamille) of Fayetteville, N.C., and Raymond Thomas of Millsboro; her extended stepsister and stepbrother, Barbara Jean and Bernard Jr. of Virginia; two aunts: Mae Newsome of North Chesterfield, Va., and Mary Belle of Pungoteague, Va.; and one uncle Calvin Belle (Shirley) of Baltimore, Md.  She was preceded in death by her mother Rosie Thomas; father Bernard Collins; stepfather Jessie Thomas; brothers Orlando and Marvin Thomas; and one stepsister Margaret Ann Collins. Rosie also has 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins.  She also leaves many friends and her church family to love and cherish her memory.

Due to the COVID-19 the funeral service will be private, with interment at Delaware Veterans Cemetery.  A Memorial Service and Celebration of Her Life will be held at a later time when the state of emergency has lifted.
