Rotary funds support birthday celebrations at Boys & Girls Club

August 24, 2024

Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club will again be dedicating $3,800 in the coming 12 months to provide monthly birthday parties for the children attending Oak Orchard Boys & Girls Club.

Started in fall 2017, the monthly birthday bashes celebrate the children whose birthdays fall in that month. Long Neck Sunrise Rotarians provide each birthday celebrant with a $25 gift card and a balloon, and all children are given cupcakes and juice boxes.

Originally part of a district grant program procured by the Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club, the initiative is now is being run with proceeds from the club’s annual golf outing held each June. There are currently 105 children attending programs at the Oak Orchard Boys & Girls Club who will benefit from this effort.

“We are so grateful that the Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club has been able to continue these birthday celebrations,“ said Erica Kennedy, Oak Orchard Boys & Girls Club executive director. “The children have come to look forward to these birthday bash Fridays, and those celebrating their birthdays enjoy the special attention they receive.”

“Working with the youth in our community is an important part of our service mission,” said Cathy Cardaneo, coordinator of the birthday bash program. “The joy we are able to bring by celebrating these children is truly evident by the smiles we see and the noise level we happily endure.”
