Royals boys' basketball powers through Mallards 56-34

Delmarva Christian earns home court for ESIAC tournament
February 13, 2025

DJ and Darrius Liles showed no brotherly love to visiting Worcester Prep Feb. 10, as each scored 14 points and they teamed for nine rebounds, four assists and four steals to lead Delmarva Christian to a 56-34 win at home.

Royals junior Seth Mifflin hit for seven points, while Andrew Collins added six points and five rebounds. Point guard Kasey Bell led the Royals on the boards with nine rebounds while tallying four points.

“It’s always good to bounce back after losing to Central last week,” said Bell. “Especially against a conference team that we may see again in the ESIAC tournament. It’s always nice to beat an ESIAC team. We didn’t play our best. One thing we need to work on is moving on defense, because we were a little flat-footed tonight. We need to spread them out and attack the paint. We missed out on the ESIAC championship last season, so I’m looking to win it and cut down the net.”

“I think we were a half-step slow on defense sometimes tonight,” said Royals head coach Marc Hannah. “We had to kind of recalibrate. Worcester came out and played tough, but our guys kept their heads and played hard and with patience. Worcester wore down in the third quarter, so we took advantage of it in the fourth. Our goal was to get home-court advantage in the ESIAC tournament, and we got it. We weren’t trying to send a statement; we just wanted to win the game. Now, it’s on to the tournament.”

Ben Anthony led the Mallards with 10 points.
