Royals field hockey overpowers McKean 7-0

October 16, 2019

The Delmarva Christian field hockey team played host to McKean Oct. 14 and put a 7-0 victory in the scorebook.

The Royals came out hot, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Erin Parker hit the back of the cage with a blast off a penalty corner. Annika McCullough followed that with a score off a helper from Haley Pinkstaff. Pinkstaff got a goal with an assist from Parker a few minutes later.

Myra Browning scored three in a row for the Royals off assists from Parker, Grace Swain and Kylee Sean Herrigan-Ferro to close out the first half.

Ashley Kim scored the lone goal in the second half off an assist from Swain.

“My whole team played well,” said Royals coach Heather Desideri. “Jorja Eppehimer was everywhere, and Caitlin Milliken, in her first game back from a concussion, played great. I’ve had them for a few years, which is an advantage.”

Royals goalie Mara Agapito is playing on an all-state level, Desideri said.

The Royals took 10 shots on goal with McKean keeper Ruthann Sturgill stopping three.

Desideri is looking at a Monday, Oct. 21 matchup with Worcester Prep as a key game that will decide if they get into the semifinals of the ESIAC tournament.

“That will be a great game because we are so evenly matched,” she said.

The Royals were set to travel to Laurel Thursday, Oct. 17, to face the Bulldogs on their Senior Day.
