The Delmarva Christian softball team defeated Archmere for the second time in a week May 17, as they downed the Auks 6-2 in the first round of the DIAA state tournament. They also defeated Archmere 6-2 on Senior Day May 13 at home.
Royals junior Lilli Showacre threw all seven innings from the circle, striking out eight Auks. She helped herself at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Katie Thompson had two RBIs for the Royals. Rachel Hall had two doubles, while Maggie Kwiatkowski, Lily Fetterman, Taylor Lowe and Lily Hutt each had one hit.
Tori Connor had two hits for the Auks. Ava Beach and Carly Polsky each had a hit each for Archmere.
“I have to be honest that I wasn’t excited when I saw we drew Archmere in the first round,” said Royals coach Keith Stonebraker. “It’s hard to beat a well-coached team twice, and we had to do it in the span of four days. They are a scrappy team, and they made us work for it. We hit some balls hard and they just made a better defensive play. Rachel [Hall] had a good day at the plate, and I was very happy for her. Lilli [Showacre] was solid as usual in the circle. It was a good team win that will hopefully propel us forward in the tournament.”
The Royals are scheduled to play Middletown in the next round Thursday, May 19.
