Ruby Marie Walters, jokester at heart

Ruby Marie Walters, 87, of Lewes, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016,at her home. She was born Jan. 17, 1929, in Marion, Ill., daughter of the late Hiram and Ethel (Duncan) Smothers.

Throughout Mrs. Walters' life, she worked at various locations, including the Oak Orchard Restaurant, Theo's Diner, Fisherman's Wharf, Millsboro Bowling Lane and Aldon Rug Mill. At the age of 70, she finally retired. During her free time, she loved preparing delicious meals for her family, watching Philadelphia Phillies games or fishing with her grandchildren. She enjoyed working on search puzzles, going to casinos to play the slots, and listening to country music. Mrs. Walters was a jokester at heart who had a delightful personality that everyone loved. She will be dearly missed by her family.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Walters' was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Chappy" Walters; four brothers: Gilbert, Claude, Carl and Jack Smothers; three sisters: Edna, Nancy and Irene; a grandson, Lee; and a son-in-law, Neil Xenos. She is survived by her five children: Paul Easley and his wife Josephine of Brookhaven, Pa., Paula Xenos of Lewes, Robert Easley and his wife Alice of Houston, Texas, Dennis Easley of Brookhaven, Pa. and Ronald Easley; grandchildren: Paul Easley, Dawn Easley, Cheryl Pioli, Amy Bates, Bobbie Joe Huling, Daniel Easley, Sarah Easley, Shannon Odhany, Shannon Xenos and many other honorable grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers: John and Kenneth Smothers.
