Ruth Madeline Erickson, enjoyed boating, traveling

Ruth Madeline Erickson, 97, of Lewes, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024. She was born July 22, 1926, in Drifting, Pa., daughter of the late Joseph and Alice Shubert.

After her three children started school, she worked as a bookkeeper for local businesses. She was one of the original members of St. Edmonds Sodality in Rehoboth Beach, VFW Post 7447, and Lewes Senior Center.

Ruth loved spending time on their pontoon boat fishing, crabbing, and clamming with her family. She proudly enjoyed watching her grandchildren play baseball from Little League, high school, and college. Ruth was extremely proud of her grandson joining the Navy, following in his grandfather's footsteps. She enjoyed traveling, square dancing, playing cards, and working on puzzles in the daily newspapers.

In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in passing by her loving husband of 68 years, Donald Erickson, in 2019; her three brothers, Eugene, Raymond and Donald Shubert; and her two sisters, Elenora Erickson and Geraldine Buckel. She is survived by her three children, Lorraine Erickson of Felton, Donnie Erickson and his wife Donna of Lewes, and Rebecca Rohlfing and her husband William of Harbeson; her three grandsons, Jason Rohlfing of Georgetown, and DJ Erickson and David Erickson of Rehoboth Beach.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan.19, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow services at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's name to Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth, 32409 Lewes Georgetown Hwy., Lewes, DE 19958.
