Ryan Borden, 17, of Chantilly, Va., entering his senior year at Freedom High, won the 18th annual Dewey Beach Patrol 5K Aug. 22, in the sizzling time of 16:08. There were 112 finishers in the race.
“I doubt we’ll have a school cross country season,” Ryan said. “I plan to run club this fall. My thing is outdoor track, and my event is the mile. I have a personal best time of 4:19, and I’m working hard so I can break 4:10 this spring.”
Colten Morris, 18, of Lewes, was second overall in 16:59, followed by Joey Andrisani, 37, in 17:26; Mike Sewell, 51, first masters, in 19:06; and Frank Ursomarso, 55, in 19:33.
Michelle Calvert, 40, of Glen Mills, Pa., was the first woman overall in 20:56. She was joined on the top 5 leaderboard by Kelsey Oliphant in 21:58, Alexis Oliphant in 21:58, Jessica Borden in 22:23 and Emily Stafford in 22:25.

The second annual Watermel Run 5K is set for Sunday, Aug. 30, in Laurel. Race time is 8:30 a.m. at Janosik Park, Delaware Avenue and E. Front Street.
