Sale of original painting benefits Milton music and wind fest

Bill Warrell’s ‘Conference of the Birds’ sold to Seattle collector
May 12, 2024

Artist Bill Warrell announced the sale of “Conference of the Birds,” his original painting featured in the recent Milton Arts Guild show.

Ken Steiner of Seattle purchased the painting, and proceeds will support the upcoming Milton New Music & Wind Fest set for Saturday, June 1. Steiner is a music and arts collector, public radio voice and Ellington jazz scholar. He remembers attending the 1978 Washington, D.C. concert depicted in the painting, when musicians David Holland and Sam Rivers performed a duet.

Presented by the Federal Street Arts Project and Milton Arts Guild in partnership with the Town of Milton, the family-friendly kite-flying event will include art and creative music. This year’s fest will feature a rare area performance by Maestro Marshall Allen, born in 1924, leading the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra, plus the premiere of “100 for Marshall,” created by T.K. Blue and Fontina Dixon for the occasion, and a set by Janel Leppin’s Ensemble Volcanic Ash.
