Sam’s Kids 5K raises $50,000 to support youngsters in need

August 15, 2024

The inaugural Sam’s Kids 5K, held Aug. 4 at the Lighthouse Cove Event Center, raised $50,000 to support youth-centered initiatives. The event brought more than 300 runners, walkers, friends and family members together to honor the memory of Sam Hanna and support children in need throughout Delaware.

Funds raised will ensure local, at-risk children benefit from essential Sam’s Kids programs such as animal therapy and education, academic scholarships, food and nutrition support through elementary-based food closets and safety provisions through clothing and shelter.

Serving as honorary starters for the 5K were Dewey Beach Mayor Bill Stevens, former Speaker of the House Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf, D-Rehoboth Beach, and Steve “Monty” Montgomery, owner of The Starboard.
