Santa Cause 5K and Fun Run to benefit Delaware families Dec. 2

It’s time to break out the yuletide attire for the 3rd annual Santa Cause 5K and Fun Run Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Starboard Restaurant in Dewey Beach. The Christmas-themed 5K event hosted by the Starboard, and presented by Children and Families First of Delaware, will benefit vulnerable children and their families in the state of Delaware by providing essential services.

Laura Rimmer, development officer for Children & Families First, said, “It is so meaningful to me that what started as a fun idea has grown into a cherished family tradition for so many that raises vital funds for our programs. I encourage everyone: young, old, in shape, out of shape, local or just visiting, please join us in bringing hope and the promise for better futures to all families in Delaware at this joy-filled celebration.”

This year, M&T Bank is the presenting sponsor, and Dogfish Head Brewery is the 5K Race Sponsor, also offering those 21 and up a post-race can of SeaQuench Ale. The event includes a competitive 5K race as well as a mile-long fun run which may be walked with kids in strollers and wagons of all sorts. Carolers will be stationed throughout the route, along with eight Christmas stations where parents and kids can enjoy the Christmas theme and holiday giveaways.

This year’s competition has gone digital and will be conducted over Instagram via the Santa Cam sponsor, Faw Casson.

Following the race, the afterparty will kick off with a DJ, refreshment buffet and 18 different holiday-themed activities including a live hosted Deal or No Deal game for the kids, where there are high-value gift cards to Shell We Bounce up for grabs. Ten raffle baskets will be offered as well. Of course, the day wouldn’t be complete without the big man, Santa himself, who will be on the scene.

The race starts at 12 p.m., and registration begins at 11 a.m. All proceeds go to help families in Delaware.
