Santa sets first visits to Lewes Nov. 30, Dec. 5

November 23, 2024

Santa will take a break from his work at the North Pole for his annual Small Business Saturday visit to Lewes Nov. 30. He’ll arrive at 12:45 p.m. via the Cape Water Taxi at the city dock in 1812 Park, and walk to his Lewes house at the corner of Second and Bank streets. He will be in residence until 3 p.m. that day.

Children can deposit their letters to Santa anytime in the mailbox located next to his house. He promises he’ll read every one.

Santa will also return for brief appearances in his house during Merchants’ Hospitality Night from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5. Fun for holiday patrons continues from 5 to 8 p.m. when shops and restaurants in the Historic Lewes Business District surrounding Second Street host an evening of holiday specials and entertainment.

Seasonal music will add to the festive mood in front of Santa’s House with appearances by the Cape Henlopen High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Chris Burkhart, and the Cape Chorale, under the direction of Marian Sunnegren. The groups will alternate performances from 5 to 6:30 p.m. To enhance the safety of children visiting Santa, and others walking between shops and restaurants, Second Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 4 to 8 p.m., Dec. 5.

As the season continues, Santa will greet visitors briefly after the Lewes Christmas parade when he arrives at his house on a Lewes Fire Department vehicle. Santa will also be in his house during the following hours this holiday season: 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12; 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14; 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 19; 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 21; and 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 23.
