Scarecrows invade downtown Georgetown
Arts & Flowers volunteers once again sponsor contest to decorate the town for fall

Georgetown Arts & Flowers is once again sponsoring its best decorated scarecrow contest in downtown along East Market and South Bedford streets. Even with road work barrels lining the streets and construction of the new Sussex County Family Court building, the contest must go on to celebrate the fall season. The scarecrows are hung on light and utility poles.
The Georgetown Arts & Flowers scarecrow welcomes people to the county seat on its pole along East Market Street.
One of the most unique scarecrows is Horizon House’s tin man from “The Wizard of Oz.”
Don’t eat the apples. Sussex County Department of Libraries’ entry features Maleficent, the witch from “Sleeping Beauty.”
The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center goes all out with a large scarecrow along South Bedford Street.
Yes, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere. The Sussex County Planning & Zoning Department pays tribute to Jimmy Buffett with its themed scarecrow.
Yarn & Bone Pet Supply in Georgetown features the spooky Salem the cat, who appeared in Archie comics and on the TV show “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.”
The Fuqua, Willard and Schab law office on The Circle in Georgetown made its scarecrow in honor of Clarence Darrow, a famous lawyer in the early decades of the 20th century.
Givens Flowers & Gifts on East Market Street can always be counted on to have one of the most colorful scarecrows in the competition.
