Seaford men’s shelter relocating to make room for women’s home
Square One DE Inc., a sober living organization based in Seaford since 2016, has partnered with Redemption City, also in Seaford and recently recognized for its outstanding commitment to the homeless community, as each of the nonprofits evolves and expands its services to the community.
With the success of Sunshine House, which has provided multiple wrap-around services to male residents since 2022, it was time for Redemption City to expand and offer services for females. Square One DE Inc., which provides multiple sober living homes for those who seek recovery, had the right place in mind.
“This was our first house,” said David Baugh, Square One co-founder, speaking of the Seaford split-ranch residence, “and our own vision and mission has expanded over the years. Recovery comes in many forms, not just from substance use disorders. With the opportunity to provide this sober environment to Redemption City, we prayed for guidance and answered the call.”
“We're thrilled to take this step,” said Nikki Gonzalez, founder and CEO of Redemption City. “In addition to the services we provide, it must be a sober environment, and Square One's experience and support will be greatly valued. And now it frees up space for us to open our doors to women, too.”
The men began transition from their Bradford Street residence March 1, into the furnished home on Virginia Avenue. Previously known by Square One former residents as Mac's House, it will now be called The Lighthouse by the residents of Redemption City. Sunshine House on Bradford Street will then be open to female residents.
