Seagreen Bicycle recently opened a second location in Lewes to offer cycling services on both ends of the popular Junction & Breakwater and Gordons Pond trails.

With the new northern location open on Monroe Avenue since mid-May, Seagreen co-owner Eric Lowe said his business is ready for the oncoming summer rush.

The original Seagreen Bicycle has been operating in a 1,000-square-foot location at 54 Baltimore Ave., offering bicycle sales, repairs and rentals in downtown Rehoboth since early last summer, Lowe said. With their early success in Rehoboth, he said they quickly wanted to expand their service area and grow with expansion of trails in the region.

The addition of a 3,600-square-foot Lewes location perpendicular to the Old Screen Door places the new Seagreen shop barely a football field's length from cyclists traveling the not-quite-open Showfield extension of the Junction & Breakwater Trail.

So far, Lowe said most of the work has revolved around setting up the new business, assembling and stocking their fleet of rentals, and the sales floor with road bikes, cruisers, hybrids and tandems.

New signage has already increased visibility of the bicycle shop, the co-owner said, but he knows the upcoming opening of the trail extension will really put this location on the map.

"Already it's like night and day since we put up the signs," Lowe said. "People are finding us and when the trail extension opens, that will be right here."

The shop sells Fuji, Breezer and SE brand bicycles also available for rentals that can be returned at either Seagreen location. Currently Lowe operates the Lewes location with mechanic Kevin Adams, who left his job in Florida as a mechanic for high-performance cyclists to join the team in Lewes.

"We can sell and repair whatever anyone wants, for the most part," Adams said. "Cruisers, comfort bikes, hybrids, road bikes, even mountain bikes - we can do to those and we can get them in - but there's not much of a demand around here."

Seagreen Bicycle is open at 209 Monroe Ave., Lewes, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., daily, in season. For more information, call 302-645-7008 or go to www.seagreenbicycle.com.
