The Sussex Academy field hockey team finished up its home schedule with a 7-0 shutout win over St. Georges Tech Oct. 27.
Morgan Leeper and Callie Short each tallied two goals to lead the Seahawks. Shelby Manlove, Rilyn Lehman and Natalee Petty each hit the board for one score. Manlove, Leeper, Petty and Lehman were each credited with an assist.
The Seahawks outshot the Hawks 16-1 and held a 19-0 advantage in penalty corners. St. Georges goalie Eva Correa made nine saves, while Kaitlyn Musgrove made a save for the home squad.
“It’s been great to see the team working hard to finish in the circle for these big wins,” said Seahawks head coach Leah Hunsinger. “Forward Natalee Petty and offensive mids Rilyn Lehman and Shelby Manlove have been essential in setting up our attack for success.”
The Seahawks travel to Seaford Monday, Oct. 31, while the Hawks host Caravel Wednesday, Nov. 2.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
