Five Seahawks swooped through the high winds to score a hat trick in the 19-2 thrashing of Caravel Academy March 28 at Sussex Academy’s turf field. The team moves to 3-0 on the season, outscoring opponents 57-4. Caravel drops to 1-2.
Sanne Elling, Annabella Guckes, Madison Leeper, Marly Rohe and Macy Steinwedel each hit the twine for three goals. Shelby Manlove scored twice, while Addison Basile and Callie Short each had a goal.
Leeper and Manlove both tallied three assists, while Elling, Guckes, Basile, Short and Steinwedel each had a helper.
Alice Pifferi and Carson Peace scored the goals for the Bucs. Pifferi and Hannah McLamb each had an assist.
Peyton Hagy made seven saves for the home Seahawks, while Addison Van Rensler made five stops for the Bucs.
“Given the weather conditions tonight, there were a lot of mistakes made,” said Sussex Academy head coach Taylor Gooch. “But through that, I think we learned to play off each other’s strengths, so that we were able to put the ball in the back of the goal. Without a doubt, teamwork is what led to the outcome of the game and is the reason why we saw five girls with three goals each. I’m very proud of our girls.”
The Seahawks welcome Lake Forest Wednesday, March 30.
