Seahawks volleyball charges past Ravens 3-0

The Sussex Academy volleyball team downed Sussex Tech 25-14, 25-20, 25-20 Oct. 4 at Sussex Tech. The Seahawks fly to 4-4, while the Ravens drop to 4-5.

Danica Duncan led the Seahawks offense with seven kills and six aces. Alodie Elliott and Carmen Merrick added four kills and four aces each. They also garnered five blocks and seven digs each. Savannah Montgomery and Gabrielle Heintz bumped 17 and 16 digs, respectively. Terri Kirchner was credited with 14 assists. Mia Barone bumped eight digs. Sienna Tamburo and Amalia Scruggs added consistency off the bench.

“Sussex Tech was a scrappy team, and we were impressed with how well their defense picked up Carmen and Danica’s attacks,” said Sussex Academy head coach Hailee Gooch. “As a team, passing efficiency and serve-receive have been a huge focus point, and we saw improvement throughout the match. We will continue to work on some key areas of enhancing our offense. But we’re exited to keep improving and moving forward with a successful season.”

Sussex Tech had consistent play from senior Shaniya Lewis from the outside hitting position, Abigail Guy at the setter spot and libero Kamryn Davis. No stats were available from the Sussex Tech team website.
