In response to the recent mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas; Buffalo, N.Y.; and Irvine, Cal.; Coolspring Presbyterian Church, off Log Cabin Road near Lewes, held a service of remembrance June 9 in front of the historic church.

As the Rev. Charles Gilmore read each name of the 22 Uvalde Robb Elementary School shooting victims, church member Steve Tidball rang a bell in their memory. On May 24, a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers, and the husband of one of the teachers died shortly after of a heart attack.

“Coolspring Church invites pastors and congregations of area churches to host similar services at their churches, which is a first step toward addressing the need for gun safety in our nation,” said David Wall, clerk of session for the church.
