Sharon Rose Forrest, outstanding cook, dietitian
Sharon Rose Forrest, 63, of Milton, passed away peacefully at Delaware Hospice Sunday Sept. 17, 2023. She was born May 1, 1960, in West Covina, Calif., daughter of the late Elvina (Cirino) and James Forrest Sr.
Sharon graduated from Alexis I. DuPont High School in 1978 and went on to obtain her bachelor of science degree in human resources and dietetics from University of Delaware. She then completed her dietetic internship at Cornell University Medical Center at New York Hospital and became a registered dietitian.
Sharon started her career in the food and beverage industry as a sous chef at Chez La Mer Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach in the early ‘80s. She was an outstanding cook and an extremely efficient and creative party planner, organizing many large parties at such places as the Brandywine River Museum and Winterthur Museum and Gardens. When Sharon threw a party or held a holiday meal for the family, there would always be at least 10 different hors d’oeuvres, several main entrees, numerous side dishes, and plenty of desserts, enough to feed a small army. She did not know how to cook for just a few, and everything was delicious.
Sharon’s most recent role was as child nutrition supervisor for Milford School District in Sussex County. Previous jobs included roles as director of food and nutrition services for BayHealth Medical Center in Dover and as a renal dietician at Fresenius Medical Care in Rehoboth Beach, treating patients with ESRD on dialysis. She also worked at Sodexo Marriott Services as a food production manager and was later promoted to the general manager of the Milford campus.
Sharon and her husband, Nick, enjoyed vacations at Marco Island and Siesta Key, Fla., and spent long weekends in Chincoteague, Va. Sharon was always smiling and loved to laugh. She enjoyed spending weekends sunbathing at Rehoboth Beach and loved dogs, especially her late black labrador named Barney. They were inseparable. There is no doubt they are together again.
Sharon is survived by her beloved husband, Nick “Darling” Edge; her brothers, Jim Forrest Jr., Tom Forrest (Marie) and Tony Forrest (Glyn Edwards); her sister, Nancy Devero (Jack); and many extended family members and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Delaware Hospice for caring for her so compassionately.
A private celebration of life will be held at a future date.
Final care has been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Jusst Sooup Ministries, 18483 Coolspring Road, Milton, DE 19968; or a charity of choice.
