Shirley A. Hitchens, ladies auxiliary member
Shirley A. Hitchens, 87, of Georgetown, departed this life Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born March 24, 1936, to her parents, James L. and Mary (Haich) Williams in Chester, Pa.
She retired as an assistant to the librarian at Delaware Technical and Community College and from the Sussex County Assessment Office. Shirley was a member of Memorial Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ira Hitchens; and her sister, Rosemarie Sperratore.
She is survived by two sons, Randy Hitchens, and Jimmy Hitchens and his wife Terri; four grandchildren, Leslee Hazzard (Brandon), Jay Hitchens (Jenn), Jenna Hanes (Dillon) and Malori Hitchens; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Charlotte Adams; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown. A time of visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be held at Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
