Shirley Jean Seifert, talented cook
Shirley Jean Seifert, 85, of Millsboro, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.
She was born in Locustdale, Pa., March 18, 1934, daughter of the late Arthur E. Hoffman and Lottie (Avert) Hoffman.
Shirley was a talented cook, and loved to go shopping to find a good bargain or sale. She also enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, playing cards and completing puzzles. Shirley will be remembered for her perseverance as nothing would ever keep her down, and also her devotion to her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by several of her siblings. She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Lawrence “Larry” E. Seifert; a daughter, Sheila Calhoun; her three granddaughters, Michele Nowlan, Christina Layton and Janine Elseser; and seven great-grandchildren, Ryan Gibbs, Verity Layton, Zoe Layton, Dylan Tarbox, Ava Steller, Harrison Elseser and Lulu Elseser. She is also survived by two sisters, Mabel Ladd and Carol Holland; a brother, Ronnie Hoffman; three nephews that were like sons to her, Wayne Minner and his wife Becky, Ernie Minner and his wife Barb, and Butch Minner and his wife Robin; and a host of other extended family members and friends.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may visit after 12:30 p.m. Interment will be private.
