Shirley Sherman, devoted church member

Shirley Sherman of Milton passed away unexpectedly at her home Sunday, Feb.  2, 2025.

Shirley was born in Concord, daughter of the late Paul James Warrington and Elizabeth (Wilkerson) Warrington. She was a lifelong resident of Milton.

Shirley spent 26 years working in the garment industry and was a member of the ILGWU. As the industry changed, she later worked as a cashier for many years at local stores, including Shockley and Reed, King Cole Company Store, and Roses in Rehoboth. In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed spending time with her husband Kenny, shopping at yard sales, and thrifting. They especially enjoyed being together on the water boating, fishing, and crabbing. She and Kenny also enjoyed caring for their four-legged friends as well.

Shirley was a member of Grace Church in Milton, where she truly loved her church friends, whom she considered family.

In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth A. “Kenny” Sherman; an infant sister, Diane Warrington; paternal grandparents, Larry and Della Warrington; and her maternal grandparents, Eli and Mae Wilkerson.

She is survived by one son, Jim Sherman and his wife Millie; two grandsons, Bruce Wardwell IV and his wife Sharon, and Darin Wardwell and his wife Lori; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Wardwell Stanley and husband Joshua, Bruce Wardwell V and fiancée Kayla, and Wilson Hitchens Wardwell; and three great-great-grandchildren, Kenleigh Wardwell, and Sophia Stanley and Beau Stanley.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 16, at Grace Church, 514 Union St., Milton, where a time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.

Flowers are accepted, or contributions may be made to Grace Church.

Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Services, Milton.
