Single Source jewelry exhibition reception set Aug. 24

August 18, 2024

Heidi Lowe Gallery will spotlight a collection of jewelry work by artist Xinia Guan in a solo show titled Single Source.

A reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, at the gallery, 119 Front St, Lewes.

A Georgia-based art jeweler born and raised in Inner Mongolia, China, Guan draws inspiration from geometry found in the natural world, specifically from the sacred geometric symbol representing the cycle of creation known as the flower of life. This symbol appears in Guan’s intricate work and also connects her deeply with the creative process. The meticulous and meditative technique of hand-sawing allows her to transform geometrical shapes from single planes into three-dimensional structures. Overlapping circles, continually stretched and folded in a seemingly endless process, represent the different stages of life.

“I am fascinated by contrast and unity, organization and repetition. Like myself, all start from a point of origin and ride with a circle overlapping another circle; paths cross and sometimes separate. I stretch, fold myself everywhere, never stopping,” said Guan.

The show will be on display through Thursday, Oct. 24.
