Slaughter Beach celebrates a day on the bay

Independence Day Regatta hailed as "this bit of insanity"
July 13, 2015

Dozens of people crowded Slaughter Beach on the Fourth of July for the town's Independence Day Regatta celebration.

The event included friendly competitions – from pie-eating and boogie boarding to kayak races for kids and adults.

Winners of the day included: Gavin Ward in the boogie board contest, Jayvon Erisman in the kids kayak race, Jake and Tony Giampietro in the adult kayak race, Chris McPherson in the pie-eating contest, Brian Andreas won the single-hull sailboat race, and Craig Parson and Jerry Hindman took home the prize in the catamaran race.

Commodore of the Slaughter Beach Sailing Club Harry Ward said the event was a hit with both locals and visitors.

“Most of all, I want to thank this gem of a community and all of its members, friends, family and visitors for allowing me to indulge all of us in this bit of insanity we call a regatta,” he said in an email after the event. “I get more pleasure than you can know by being here in Slaughter Beach and by being able to create a weird, little fun weekend with so much of the community's support.”
