Smyk presents state proclamation to Women’s Club of Milton

September 25, 2019

Rep. Stephen T. Smyk, R-Milton, presented a State of Delaware Proclamation to the Women’s Club of Milton at its recent meeting. The proclamation recognizes the club’s positive involvement in the Milton community through its work on the Pollinator Preserve Garden, created to attract birds, bees and butterflies.

Club member Kathryn Greig had the small seed of an idea for beautifying the garden at the Carol Thomas House and mentioned it to Maureen Blasic, club conservation committee chair. The project soon bloomed into a lush and lavish garden at the house on the grounds of the Milton Historical Society.

Members of the Milton Community Foundation, Milton Garden Club and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery; Town of Milton council and public works employees; Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife team members; and numerous others contributed time, expertise and financial resources toward what has become a beautiful part of the Milton community.

Club members are thrilled to learn that visitors have expressed interest in planting their own pollinator gardens. Pollinator gardens are aesthetically pleasing, good for bees and butterflies, and provide a learning experience for everyone.

All are welcome to visit the Milton Historical Society and take a stroll through the preserve and appreciate nature’s beauty. For more information about the Women’s Club of Milton, go to www.womensclubofmilton.org.
