Snyder-Hall is reasonable, level-headed

October 25, 2024

Claire Snyder-Hall wants to serve in the General Assembly because she wants to do the job – representing the people of our district, helping constituents with their problems, securing resources for our nonprofit organizations, and passing laws that affect everyone in the entire state. And she plans to work the job full time.

A recent letter in the Cape Gazette asserted that issues such as “crime and punishment, and equity imbalance and rights are important, but they are better addressed at the federal level” and have nothing to do with the state rep position. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth. It is precisely the state Legislature that determines state law as it relates to criminal justice, and it is the state Legislature that protects our rights in Delaware.

Delaware is a great state, but there are certain areas where we need to amend our state constitution to better protect our rights and freedoms. We need to amend our constitution to allow people to vote safely and securely from home without having to provide an excuse. We need to amend our constitution to protect a woman’s right to choose, so a simple majority cannot take that right away. And we need to amend our constitution to protect people from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. Claire will always fight to defend our rights and freedoms.

I have been by Claire’s side for more than 20 years. I know how much she cared about her teaching, as reflected in the strong reviews she routinely received on her student evaluations. I know how respectfully she interacts with friends and colleagues who hold a range of views. And I know how hard she works at everything she does.

Claire is a stand-up person who respects other people. She is reasonable and level-headed.

Claire spent eight years serving in a range of leadership roles in the Democratic Party, including as party chair for this district. She knows politics. She knows when to stick to her principles and when to put idealism aside for the sake of pragmatism. Claire is someone whose judgment you can trust.

Claire has spent the last nine months knocking on doors all over the district and earning the support of Democrats, Independents and Republicans. I hope you will join me in voting for her on or before Tuesday, Nov. 5.
