Soil health workshops start Jan. 18
The Delaware Soil Health Partnership can help property owners learn to improve their soil health in 2023, with three soil health workshops. All events are free and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesdays, at the Bridgeville Fire Hall. Lunch will be provided following each event.
On Jan. 18, Jeremiah Durbin, an independent soil consultant and owner of Sustainable Legacy Consulting, will present, Scale Up Your Soil Health - Manage Risk for Increased Profitability. Following the presentation, a farmer panel will discuss Troubleshooting and Identifying the Next Steps.
On Feb. 8, Tim Rosen, director of agriculture and restoration at ShoreRivers, will discuss conservation drainage and soil health initiatives on Delmarva. University of Delaware extension agents David Owens, entomology, and Jarrod Miller, agronomy, will cover the latest soil health research updates. Additional information will be provided on USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service soil health program updates. An expert panel discussion, Weighing the Tradeoffs in Soil Health, will conclude the session.
On Feb. 22, Liz Haney, founder of Soil Regen and co-developer of the Haney soil health test, will present A Deep Dive Into Soil Testing for Soil Health. A discussion on interpreting Sussex County soil test results, regenerative certification and the future of agriculture will follow the presentation.
