The Miss Delaware Pageant was held June 25 at the Milton Theatre and when the talent, evening gown and judges’ questions portions were finished, Miss Milford Sophie Phillips of Bear was crowned Miss Delaware 2021. Phillips' talent was piano, and she played a Jethro Tull song; her platform was environmental justice.
Twelve candidates vied for the title of Miss Delaware 2021, competing in the areas of private interview, social impact pitch/on stage question, talent, and evening gown.
The first runner-up was Miss Brandywine Riley Slate. Other contestants in the top five were Miss Capital Imani Cummings, Miss First State Allison Dayton and Miss Blue-Gold Kara Scarangella.




Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
