South Bethany’s Matt Amerling receives 2023 Clerk of the Year Award

October 31, 2023

Matt Amerling, town clerk for South Bethany, received the 2023 Clerk of the Year Award presented Oct. 19 by the Delaware League of Local Governments. South Bethany Town Manager Maureen Hartman nominated him.

Amerling has been employed by the Town of South Bethany since March 2021. Tracy Torbert, Delaware Municipal Clerks Association Nominating Committee chair, said, “DMCA is proud to announce that Matthew Amerling from the Town of South Bethany was selected from a group of well-deserving nominees. Matt arrived just after the peak of the COVID pandemic began to decline. With town hall being closed, he jumped right in to find ways to safely assist residents with their needs. He has been an asset and an integral part to the town.”

The annual award honors a municipal clerk whose accomplishments have made the most significant contribution to raising the professional status and image of the profession and improving Delaware municipal government.

DLLG Executive Director Kevin J. Spence said, “The award symbolizes the hard work our local government officials do. Each year, the DMCA must make the tough decision about who to nominate, but based on Mayor [Tim] Saxton’s and other administrators’ comments, Matt really rose to the occasion. We look forward to presenting the 2023 Town Manager of the Year Award at the league’s upcoming January monthly meeting.”
