Working to make the idea of No Hate Here a reality in Delaware, a newly formed organization called Speak Out Against Hate held its second meeting Nov. 16 at the Lewes library.
Formed by a group of concerned citizens working with the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice and members of the Seaside Jewish Community’s Social Justice Committee, Speak Out Against Hate seeks to bring awareness to the rising tide of hate and its normalization in Delaware. About 50 people attended the meeting in person, joined by 25 more via Zoom, to hear examples of actions attendees had taken since the first meeting and receive brief updates from various committee chairs.
The featured speaker was peace educator Rick Grier-Reynolds. He shared stories from his 50 years as a peacemaker in the Middle East, Central America, the former Yugoslavia, and inside local prisons. His message was one of awareness, involvement and hope.
The next SOAH meeting is set for 5 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 11, at Lewes Public Library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes. Attendance via Zoom will also be available.
