Special Olympics athletes attend Camp Barnes

August 14, 2015

More than 100 Special Olympics athletes from around the State of Delaware attended the SODE summer camp at Camp Barnes Aug. 8-10.

Summer camp is one of the most anticipated event of the year for Special Olympic athletes of various ages and abilities. Campers participate in several traditional camp activities - sports, canoeing, swimming, kayaking, boating and arts and crafts just to name a few - while enjoying the opportunity to reacquaint with and meet new friends during the three-day, two night camp experience.

During the first evening of camp 40 high school student-athletes attended as part of their experience at the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association Leadership Conference. In addition, more than 25 high school and college students from around the state are volunteering at camp as counselors.
