Special Olympics summer camp kicks off Aug. 3

July 29, 2024

Special Olympics Delaware will host two sessions of its annual summer camp Saturday to Monday, Aug. 3 to 5 and Sunday to Tuesday, Aug. 11 to 13, at Camp Barnes in Frankford. More than 55 Special Olympics Delaware athletes and dozens of volunteer counselors are scheduled to attend.

Summer camp is one of the most anticipated events of the year for Special Olympics athletes of various ages and abilities. Campers participate in several traditional camp activities - sports, canoeing, swimming, kayaking, boating and crafts, just to name a few - while enjoying the opportunity to reacquaint with old friends and meet new friends during the three-day, two-night camp experience.

“Special Olympics Delaware Summer Camp is all about celebrating athleticism, teamwork, and personal growth while campers dive into the joy of sports and form strong friendships,” said Nate Threatts, SODE staff member and camp director. “The connection between our counselors and campers is something special, filled with mentorship, encouragement, and lots of fun helping to create memories that will last a lifetime.”
