Each year the students who participate in St. Edmond’s religious education are charged with the task of deciding for whom and how they will raise funds for people in need. This year’s fourth-grade class arrived at a creative solution for fundraising and chose to keep the money in the local community.
All of the St. Edmond's fourth-grade students attend Cape Henlopen School District elementary schools, and when they learned that the newly formed Let Me Run club at HOB Elementary School needed club fees, supplies and sneakers, they immediately stepped up to the challenge.
The students decided to plan a carnival, the first one ever at St. Edmond. The students planned, and volunteered their games, prizes and efforts in order to create a fun event after Sunday School April 24. They transformed classroom spaces into face-painting stations, snack shacks, corn hole challenges and other fun games.
Alyssa Titus, fourth-grade religious education teacher, says, “Our students were so excited about the idea of planning and executing a carnival from start to finish. It gave them a great sense of accomplishment, and they were thrilled to help local kids in need. My co-teacher Courtney Bauerle and I could not be prouder of these students.” The fourth-grade students presented a $245 check to the H.O.B. Let Me Run club. Head coach Brennan Davis was thrilled with the donation. He said, “Thank you so much for the donation. It really helps our program. We appreciate all the support you've given us in our first season!"
