St. John the Baptist Church in Milton prior to 1936

July 12, 2016

This photograph from the early 20th century shows St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church on Federal Street in Milton.  This building was constructed in about 1875 and then underwent extensive remodeling in 1936.  The most visible aspect of that remodeling was the addition of a clinker brick veneer to the outside of the building which gave it the distinctive appearance that it holds today.  The church’s formation and congregation dates back to 1728.  Its first location was in a forest southeast of town. See Dennis Forney’s Barefootin’ column for a photo of what the church looks like now with its brick veneer.
