St. Peter's concert series to present GuruGanesha Band May 20

May 13, 2012

The new GuruGanesha Band has taken the concert experience to new levels, blending world beats and ancient instruments with modern electronics and such diverse musical styles as raga, blues and jazz along with traditional kirtan.

The group is led by world devotional music pioneer Guru Ganesha Singh, renowned for his work with singers Snatam Kaur, Tina Malia and Nirinjan Kaur and widely respected as the founder of Spirit Voyage records.

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, May 20, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on Second Street in Lewes. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $15 each by visiting www.guruganesha.com or $20 at the door the evening of the concert.

Grounding the GGB’s beats are tabla ace Daniel Paul, a seasoned world percussion dynamo and first-rate harmony vocalist, and bassist Guru Sangat Singh, a soulful jazzman with a supple feel and cosmic connection. Spicing the beat like an expert fusion chef is rhythm guitarist/backing vocalist Sat Kartar Singh, old friend, highly accomplished yogi and dapper counterpart to GuruGanesha.

The GGB’s musical tapestry is enriched by multi-instrumentalist Hans Christian, who performs on cello, sarangi, sitara and nyckelharpa (Swedish keyed fiddle). A much in-demand session musician, Christian has played with everyone from Robbie Robertson to RASA to Donna DeLory.

Michelle Hurtado is the GuruGanesha Band’s singer. She brings her entire life and soul to every note - her Cuban family background, her deep grounding in Kundalini yoga, her world travels and her ardent studies in everything from Sanskrit to flamenco dance. Hurtado also calls herself by the name her grandmother gave her, Paloma - Spanish for dove - and when she sings, audiences understand why.

Founded approximately 10 years ago, the Music at St. Peter’s Concert Series is an outreach of the music ministry of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes. The series presents a wide variety of sacred and secular music spanning many centuries, genres and cultures. Further information may be found at www.musicatstpeters.org.
