Starboard Sauced now open six days a week in Dewey Beach

June 12, 2024

Starboard Sauced is now open from 12 p.m. to 2 a.m., Tuesday to Sunday in the space formerly occupied by Mama Celeste’s, at 2001 Coastal Highway, Dewey Beach.

For more than 25 years, Mama Celeste’s Pizzeria was a staple of the Dewey Beach experience, known for long lines of people mingling outside with slices in hand.

When Mama and Papa Celeste decided to retire, Starboard owner Steve “Monty” Montgomery said, “We wanted to preserve this piece of Dewey Beach history, which were we able to do. We were also able to bring Mama back as an employee to be that familiar face people are used to at the location.”

Joining the pizza partnership and taking over the day-to-day operations at Sauced are long-term Starboard employees Joe Lopez as executive chef and Keith ‘Toastie’ Kirk. Over the winter, Lopez and Kirk worked diligently to integrate customer feedback and get Sauced cranking out stellar pies.

Kirk said, “We really dialed in during the off-season, and now we are ready to roll out our hard work, including amazing new lunch sandwiches that hit the spot.”

The building got a facelift and was adorned with a mural by local artist Leah Beach. While the outside is looking fresh and the menu is updated, the heart and soul of the place is very much intact and brimming with Dewey Beach spirit.
