Stephen Elliott Lynch, veteran, dedicated employee

August 8, 2024

Stephen “Suggie” Elliott Lynch, of Georgetown, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, at his home. He was 84.

He was born April 15, 1940, in Ridgely, Md., to the late Stephen F. and Pauline Elliott Lynch. His early years were spent being raised in the Catholic Church alongside his five siblings.

In May 1957, Suggie left Ridgely behind and began a life full of adventure and accomplishment. He enlisted in the Navy, where he found his purpose for many years aboard the USS John W. Weeks. After leaving the military, Suggie went on to find success in a variety of careers, including owner of Video Showcase, meat manager for ACME and Safeway, and employee of Kirby & Holloway. Throughout these careers, he remained dedicated to his title as a Navy veteran through his membership in the American Legion, VFW, and Tin Can Soldiers.

Suggie was much more than just a dedicated employee and Navy veteran. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He never lost his love of adventure, which was evident through his many trips to Delaware’s beaches and the Outer Banks to surf-fish, and the memories he created visiting family and friends. His hugs had a way of making up for any time that had passed between the last visits, and his smile was infectious. Suggie loved the simple things in life as well; he enjoyed keeping his yard looking pristine, watching his favorite sports teams (Orioles and Commanders), collecting coins, researching his family genealogy, reading a good book, or relaxing at home with his wife and beloved dogs, Chip and Ginger. No matter what he was doing, Suggie was giving it his all, putting his best foot forward, and creating memories that will not soon be forgotten.

His legacy will live on through his wife, Barbara Lynch; his sister, Barbara Elles (Chris); his children, Brenda Smith, Janet Shaffer (Bill), Steve Lynch, Ronda Mcintyre (Jeff) and Rick Reed; grandchildren, Shane Cohee (Harley), Seth Cohee (Christy), Tori Comeaux (Brian), Tyler Wood, Kacey Clark (Kenny), Jeremy Lynch (Meghan), Talia Breeding (Cole), Savannah Reed (Rachel), Troy Smith, April Stayton (Chuck), Brian Stayton (Georgia), JD Mcintyre (Annette), Gabby Abraham (JB) and Dylan Reed; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Suggie was predeceased by his two brothers, Paul and Rodney Lynch; and his sisters, Betty Bowman and Audrey Stedman.

A memorial service will be held with visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Short’s Funeral Home, Georgetown, with a service beginning at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be at 2 p.m., at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
