Steve Re returns as Cape boys’ basketball coach

Steve Re will be back on the bench next season as the head coach of Cape’s boys’ basketball team.
Cape Henlopen School District announced Re’s hiring July 8. Re coached the Cape team from 2011 to 2019, then led the Beacon Middle School girls’ team from 2019 to 2021.
Re has more than 15 years of experience coaching boys’ basketball. In 2018, he was named Henlopen Conference Coach of the Year, the same year the team earned the No. 1 seed in the DIAA state tournament.
His record during his first stint at Cape was 104-71. His teams reached the state tournament in seven of eight seasons.
Shemik Thompson coached the Vikings the last two seasons.
