Susan Wood Zacharias Calloway, DuPont Co. retiree

Susan Wood Zacharias Calloway, 81, of Laurel, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 31, 2022, at ChristianaCare Hospital in Wilmington.

Susan was born March 31, 1941 in Salisbury, Md., to the late Otto Duker Zacharias and Francis Wood Zacharias.

She attended Lewes High School. Her first job was as a volunteer at Beebe Hospital in Lewes. She retired from E.I. DuPont Company in Seaford after almost 30 years in accounts payable division. Susan loved to travel, and traveled all over the world with her friends, her husband Bob, and her family. She was an avid collector of Jello molds, teapots and creamers, and anything pertaining to Lewes Dairy. She also was a dedicated member of Eastern Star, where she made many lifelong friends. She loved her family and spent as much time as possible with them. Susan was very social and loved to talk to anyone and everyone.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepson, Richard “Ricky” Edward Calloway; her sister, Charlotte Zacharias Johnston (Cleburn “Sonny” Johnston); her brother, Daniel “Jay” Joseph Zacharias; and her son, Michael Palmer. Susan is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Calloway; her brother, John Robert Zacharias (Darlene); her son, Steven Palmer; her son, Douglas “Doug” Calloway (Nichole); stepdaughter, Deborah “Debbie” Lynn Outten (William); stepson, Nicolas “Nick” Calloway; daughter-in-law, Roxanne Palmer; granddaughter, Stephanie Lynn Powell (Matthew); granddaughter, Hayden Calloway; grandson, Joe Palmer (Rachael); several nieces and nephews, and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at noon, Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Hannigan Short Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to noon.
