School choice is the process that allows every family to select the K-12 educational options that best fit their children. A parent or legal guardian residing in Delaware may apply to enroll their child in any public, charter, magnet or vocational-technical school, regardless of the student’s area of residence.
The school choice enrollment application for the 2025-26 school year for students in kindergarten through 11th grade will open Monday, Nov. 4, and close Wednesday, Jan. 8.
Sussex Academy uses the Data Services Center for application submission and processing. To access the application online, go to schoolchoicede.org/Apply/SussexAcademy.
If more applications are received during the open application period than there are anticipated openings, a lottery will be held to select the students who will be invited to enroll for the upcoming school year. Students are admitted to the school in the order that their application is selected.
If required for the 2025-26 school year, lotteries will be held Friday, Jan. 17. The lottery results will be emailed to all applicants, providing enrollment details to the successful candidates and waiting list information to those who are not selected.
Application numbers for incoming sixth-grade students who are assigned lottery numbers 80 or below will be invited to enroll for the 2026 school year. In accordance with Delaware Code as stated in Title 14 section 405(c), the waiting list will remain in effect until Sept. 30, 2025.
