Sussex Academy girls’ lacrosse downs Milford 23-3

The Sussex Academy girls’ lacrosse team put up a 23-3 thrashing of the Bucs May 11 at Milford’s lower turf field.

Shelby Manlove led the Seahawks with four goals. Sanne Elling, Annabella Guckes, Macy Steinwedel, Addison Basile, Morgan Leeper, Callie Short and Emiley Bisaha each scored two. Madison Naples, Shea Danahy, Marley Rohe, Lillian Manlove and Rilyn Lehman each hit the twine once.

Guckes and Shelby Manlove were credited with four assists. Basile helped on two while Elling, Steinwedel, Leeper, Short and Lillian Manlove each tallied one.

Milford was led by Hannah Zimmerman with two goals while Bailey Masten had a score.

The Seahawks took 34 shots on goal while the Bucs took four.

Milford goalie Madison Stahl had six saves while Seahawks keeper Peyton Hagy made two stops and Morgan Leeper had one.

“We were able to play a lot of our subs today to get them some more field experience leading into the tournament,” said Sussex Academy head coach Taylor Gooch.

He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
