David C. Dolby Sussex AMVETS Post 2 held its annual Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 11.

Sen. Brian Pettyjohn, R-Georgetown, was the featured speaker and thanked the veterans for their service. He said the recent election, regardless of political affiliation, was an example of what veterans had given their lives for. The freedom to vote and a structured election system this country’s veterans have fought to preserve no matter what, he said.

Pettyjohn said veterans and active military have kept this country safe, and when there have been attacks such as Pearl Harbor or 9/11, the world knows this country will respond. If another country strikes us, they know they need to be ready for the hell and fury they’ll get in return.

Post Commander Dave Heffline said Veterans Day isn’t a just for veterans, but for all Americans to celebrate and remember all the veterans who have risen to the challenge of defending this country time and time again.
