Sussex council recognizes April as Fair Housing Month

During its April 8 meeting, Sussex County Council officially recognized April as Fair Housing Month with a formal proclamation commemorating the 57th anniversary of the landmark Fair Housing Act of 1968.
The ceremony acknowledges the ongoing commitment of Sussex County and community partners, including the Sussex County Association of Realtors, to support equal access to housing and uphold fair housing practices throughout the region.
Read aloud in council chambers, the proclamation reinforces the importance of ensuring housing opportunities free from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status, disability – and under Delaware law – creed, marital status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and source of income.
Representing SCAOR at the event were Stephanie Moody, association executive, and Bill Davis, 2025 SCAOR president, who joined a group of local leaders in marking the occasion.
SCAOR continues to support educational initiatives, professional development and public awareness campaigns aimed at fostering equity in housing and promoting the values enshrined in the Fair Housing Act.
SCAOR encourages members and the public to reflect on the progress made and the work still ahead in building a more inclusive, welcoming Sussex County for all.
