The Sussex Optimist Club announced the three winners of the Optimist International Essay Contest on Jan. 20 at J.D. Shuckers in Georgetown. The essays were written on the theme, “Is optimism the key to achieving the dreams you imagine?” The contest was available to all high school students less than 19 years old in Sussex County, and each essay was judged by three qualifying members of the Optimist Club.
All three winners received a certificate, medal and monetary prize.
The first-place winner was Zeniah Holland of Sussex Technical High School. Second place went to Alexis Pyles, also from Sussex Tech. The third-place winner was Christopher Rochester of Cape Henlopen High School.
