Sussex Tech graduate Bansri Patel among 15 finalists in BioGENEius Challenge

Bansri Patel, a 2014 graduate of Sussex Technical High School, was recently named one of the 15 finalists for The BioGENEius Challenge. She headed to San Diego June 23-26 to compete in the International BioGENEIUS Challenge at BIO 2014, the international convention for the biotech industry, representing all students from across Delaware.

Organized by the Biotechnology Institute, The BioGENEius Challenge is the premier competition for high school students worlwide that recognizes outstanding research in biotechnology.  It provides young STEM innovators and entrepreneurs a venue to showcase their research in addition to helping them build a long-term support system for converting their dreams into reality.

Patel is in the running to win the first-place cash prize of $7,500 while in San Diego.

"The BioGENEius Challenge encourages the younger generation, one that is increasingly civic-minded, to find first-rate solutions to food, climate and health challenges. This competition nurtures the best, the most innovative and skilled student scientists," said Janelle Curtis, VP of Programs for the Biotechnology Institute.
