Sussex Tech seniors sign letters of intent

December 1, 2012

Two Sussex Technical High School athletes have signed letters of intent to play collegiate sports. Senior Will Bayko will play baseball at Delaware State University, and senior Kellen Cannon will play women’s lacrosse at Bloomsburg University.

Will holds several records for Sussex Tech’s baseball team. He has the highest batting average at .414, the highest on-base percentage at .510, the most RBIs at 15 and the most runs scored at 13. On the defensive side, Will has a 94 percent fielding average for the Ravens. Last season, he was named to the All-Henlopen Conference second team.

Will chose Delaware State because it is close to home, and his family will be able to attend his collegiate games. He also has several friends already attending the Dover institution. He will play first base and pitch for the Division I Hornets.

The son of Ralph and Lisa Bayko of Lewes, Will has been studying landscape management and environmental technologies at Sussex Tech, but will switch to sports management at Delaware State.

Kellen Cannon is an all-state lacrosse player at Sussex Tech for coach Kathleen Fluharty, who began coaching her in a youth league when she was just 6 years old. Kellen has recorded 170 goals and 50 assists during her Sussex Tech lacrosse career. She is also a former all-state field hockey player for the Ravens.

Kellen was impressed with Bloomsburg and its women’s lacrosse team after attending a clinic and overnight visit at the Pennsylvania school. She is looking forward to playing Division II ball for new Huskies coach Mallory Poole. Bloomsburg was the 2012 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse champions.

An athletic health care-physical therapy major at Sussex Tech, Kellen will study psychology/education at Bloomsburg University. She is the daughter of Kelly and Felicia Cannon of Milton.
