Tax reassessment experts to speak Feb. 5

The Sussex County League of Women Voters will host a presentation titled, “The Ins and Outs of Tax Reassessment,” at its League, Libations and Learning social gathering from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Cottage Café in Bethany Beach.

Guest speakers will be Christopher Keeler, Sussex County director of assessment, and Katrina Mears, business services manager for Sussex County’s finance division.

The current project to revalue all properties in Sussex County and across Delaware follows a lawsuit over outdated property values that was settled in 2021 among the three counties, state and litigants. Assessments are used in the calculation of annual property taxes, with revenue collected for local government services and public education.

Although the luncheon is open to all, seating is limited and preregistration is required.
