Teen charged in Greenwood dirt bike robbery
A Greenwood teen faces robbery and firearm charges Dec. 18 after police say he stole money from another teen in what was supposed to be a dirt bike transaction.
The Delaware State Police were called at 3:25 p.m. to the 14000 block of Mile Stretch Road in Greenwood after another 16-year-old agreed to buy a dirt bike from an acquaintance and drove the teen to Mile Stretch Road to complete the purchase, police said.. While in the car, police said, the suspect displayed a firearm, and when they arrived to purchase the dirt bike, the suspect took the victim’s money and ran away. The victim was not hurt, police said.
Troopers searched the area and found the suspect on the 6000 block of Newton Way, where he was taken into custody after a brief struggle. During a search of the suspect, police said they found the money and a loaded 9mm handgun that was reported stolen in March 2024.
The suspect was taken to Troop 5 where he was charged with first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by a person under 18, possession of ammunition by a person under 18, first-degree reckless endangering, theft of a firearm, theft under $1,500, and resisting arrest. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and committed to Stevenson House Detention Center in default of $69,000 cash bond.
